A favourite pastime for the people of Melbourne. We love to plan it, book it, debate it, snap it, devour it, post it, and boast about it. Eggs are rarely left out of the picture. At Palate, we love breakfast, eggs and everything that comes with them. And here are 5 reasons our bodies also love some egg goodness…
One) Essential Minerals.
Packed with Zinc, Iron and Phosphorus minerals, eggs provide the vital mineral needs for your body. There are also a range of trace elements (minerals that are only needed in minimal amounts). Eggs contain iodine, which makes thyroid hormones, and selenium, which is an antioxidant that can reduce the risks of cancer.
Get.Your.Vitamin.Fix.Here. Vitamin A for eyesight. Vitamin B2 which helps the body break down food. Vitamin B12 for producing red blood cells. And Vitamin E which reduced free radicals that cause tissues and cellular damage, leading to cancer. All of this is one little parcel of goodness….
Three) WEIGHT LOSS!
Didn’t know eggs can actually help you loose weight? Don’t be too scared by the ‘dietary cholesterol’ contained in eggs. It is very different to the very scary ‘blood cholesterol’ you need to avoid. Eggs leave you feeling fuller for longer, which helps to reduce the desire to eat, having the capacity to avoid an extra 400 calories a day!
Four) Low-cal PROtein.
One egg contains 70-85 calories & about 6.5 grams of protein. An average person needs about 50 grams of protein a day. So to start your day right, a 3-egg omelette could be life changing for you, keeping you fuller for longer and maintaining your protein levels.
Five) Eye Health.
Eggs play a vital role in providing the antioxidants that work towards the prevention of eye disease. They also provide omega 3 fat or DHA, which is a major part of the retina, and an adequate intake of DHA may help protect the eyes from retinal damage.
